Once upon a time in German occupied Belgium…
No, this isn’t inglorious bastards, this is BETTER

I think this collection should be made into a movie.

Simple as that. The comics can be used as a story board. That’s how together the story and art is. Nothing is wasted, every scene can be used. It works just like a GREAT action movie. Angels living among us, trying to get back into heaven. Yes, it sounds a lot like Dogma but with a combination of Indiana Jones and 300. Indiana Jones because the Angels were Nazis and 300 because you have to imagine less than 20 soldiers against an undying horde of half angels and a full angel.

It’s a great ending. Go on and read it.

On the surface this is the recipe for disaster.

An obviously dysfunctional group.

A totally bent strong man with such a skewed sense of honor and neuroses you don’t know what’s up or down.
A sociopathic sharpshooter with absolutely NO morals and no problem with stabbing his teammates in the back.
A psychotic weirdo(there is no better way to describe him) who even went as far as removing his own junk.
A young woman with father issues (normally a good thing) who just happens to be able to kill an entire gang of men.
A banshee (literally) who has a thing for rugged killers.
A vacillating idiot who still hasn’t decided whether he’s an angel or a demon.

This group has no compunctions with backstabbing each other, changing their minds and then joining up again to finish whatever’s been pissing them off together.

This group has MAJOR issues but they work well together and this issue really shows what those major issues are and most of all, why these people NEED each other. They also happen to hold each other to the ground and keep themselves from self-destructing.

This issue was a bit more ho-hum than I expected and a LOT more confusing than what’s normal for this series.

The story itself was straightforward BUT the way it was presented would have been better. The story was pretty simple really, just the AoA recovering after the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Jade Claw, it just had a few other story bits inserted into the mix. My gripe with the story’s presentation is that, sure, it’s normal to cut up a story but there isn’t really a need to put titles on each part. I actually kept backtracking while reading the story because the title of each “chapter” were things that I really didn’t look at. It was interesting to see the origins of M-11 and maybe have a look into the history of the Dragons according to Mister Lao but I kind of found the issue lacking this time around.

There’s nothing wrong with trade paperbacks. This is an article on the matter and I agree wholeheartedly. I buy single issues but I don’t understand the prejudice some collectors feel against people who buy TPBs. I’m sure you can’t just bring all your singles with you on a road trip for some light reading. I’m sure you’re not going to lend out your singles to a friend so he can check out the story. Go with the TPBs if you’re not obsessing over every single issue, it’s cheaper. Go with TPBs if you didn’t go with a storyline and all the issues are now hard to find. Go with TPBs if you don’t want to bother with a mini-series just yet.

So here’s one of my favorites. The art is amazing, which is to be expected since there are SIXTEEN different artists working on the same project. The story is no slouch either. It’s a real hero’s tale filled with loss and victory. More Lord of the Rings than wham! smash! bop!

The great part is that all of the characters in the story seem so familiar but at the same time different.

The final battle reminds me of the whole “for Frodo” battle in the Return of the King. I love how the ending is full of hope for the future.

Take a gander at it, you may just like it.

This issue blew me away so much from the writing alone that I’m amazed that it took this long for it the story to pick up.

This issue explains SO MUCH about the Speed force and so many other things.
Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver as a team is insane.

That they returned Max Mercury is something I like. Bart’s father figure was a favorite of mine. The “Zen master of the Speed force” was always an enjoyable read for me.

Maybe realizing the truth is something Barry Allen needs to stop holding back?

I’m actually getting excited for the rest of the series.

Grodd won, everyone else lost.

Batman in hiding. Superman in exile because of the kryptonite in the air. Every other hero dead. Humanity is in slavery. Grodd won.

Dystopian future. Only Batman against an entire world.

In the end this story was about BOTH of them. Superman needed someone to hold the fort and Batman could never bring the people’s hope back to life. This illustrates just how much the two are intertwined and need each other.

Read the comic ‘coz i won’t be spoiling the surprise.

Late again. SICK but still kicking. I’m a bit too tired to enunciate how I feel about the comics.

Adventure Comics #1
It’s all good. I love the art by Francis Manapul. The story is starting so I can be forgiving.

Batman #689
Dick’s whole “Batman-ness” is starting to chip away and Two-face seems to be able to tell it isn’t really Batman under the cowl. I like how Dick enjoys the new toys so much but he REALLY is SO different compared to Bruce, this issue just shows it even more.

Red Robin #3
Nothing much to say. Same old, same old. Emo-ness, Tim going whatever at Ra’s, him getting surprised. Flashbacks, NOTHING NEW.

GL Corps #39
(Blackest Night) Just read it.

Blackest Night Batman #1
Kinda whatever since it’s starting. All comics now are SLOW.

Blackest Night #2
(Blackest Night) Just read it.

The Marvels Project #1
If you read Marvel, read this.

Yes, I KNOW it’s late. I said it would be didn’t I?

War of Kings: Warriors #2
I liked this one a lot more than I expected to. The lessons that I found in both short stories were interesting and really touched the heart. The pages where Crystal and Fenn-ra are talking and finding the reason for being a people in their children was really nice. The story about Lilandra was cool, talking about fighting smart.

Astro City: The Dark Age book three #4
This is what I get for loving Alex Ross cover art. Hehe! My only regret is that I liked the series.

War of kings #6
All good, still not the end, great battle, new majestor. Same old, same old. Still, it’s all good. Finally seeing Black Bolt really let loose was worth it.

Agents of Atlas #9
Still one of my favorites PERIOD! My only advice, BUY IT. I LOVE the team dynamics and how cool everyone is even though they’re all so old school.

Secret Six #12
Why can’t Gail Simone write this well ALL THE TIME? Heck if I know, which is why I’m stuck on this title. The Wonder Woman tie in is okay BUT the scene where Artemis starts killing all the guards off is PRICELESS. I love Nicola Scott’s art.

It just fits. I guess the whole part about endings and beginnings has a special place for me.

Another song that talks to me. “I wish I was special…”

This song was introduced to me by my older sister. One of the reasons I thank God for her.

Angel by Sarah McLachlan is one of the most haunting songs I’ve ever heard. Not just in melody but also in lyrics. It’s a song that gives you the ability to go on for just one more day.

Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
Theres always one reason
To feel not good enough
And its hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh beautiful release
Memory seeps from my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
Ill find some peace tonight

In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
Youre in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there

So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
Theres vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It dont make no difference
Escaping one last time
Its easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
Youre in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there
Youre in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
